Hades Script
TITLE: VII. Hades
The silhouette of Fogarty rushes through the door.Fogarty's face appears shocked and angry.
FOGARTY
Shut the door. Quick.
Hubert SLAMS the door shut. SOUND of a bullet striking the door from outside ECHOES around the darkness.
Hubert hands Fogarty a pair of rubber gloves. (*Shot pulling them off - reversed, so that he pulls them on)
FOGARTY
When did he arrive?
HUBERT
Don't ask questions - just keep moving.
Fogarty walks away from the corpse, upset, inconsolable and is enshrouded in darkness, head bowed.
The figure of AE emanates from this blackness.
FOGARTY (tenderly)
George? Surely to God not you too?
AE
((touches Fogarty)
Yes, Oliver. I have realised all my ambitions and have had an astonishing interest in life. What more could anyone want?
FOGARTY(turns away in tears)
Goodbye.
Fogarty is again alone. An ancient figure emanates.
GRANDFATHER
Hello boy.
FOGARTY
Grandfather?
GRANDFATHER
Tears never yet supplied any man's needs.
FOGARTY
No Grandfather.
GRANDFATHER
Don't be afraid of life.
Grandfather dissipates. FATHER emanates.
FATHER
Son.
FOGARTY(disbelief)
Da?
FATHER
Yes.
FOGARTY(angrily)
When you left we were so young...
FATHER
We do not choose when we go.
FOGARTY
But...
FATHER
You took my place. Nine years old.
FOGARTY
It....
FATHER
You have your own family now. Pull yourself together and get back to them. Beware of holy cows and literary imposters.
FOGARTY
What you mean? Who?
FATHER

Father dissipates. MANANNAN MAC LIR materialises.
FOGARTY
Er, I beg your pardon?
((recognition dawning)
Mrs. Choice? Oh, dear. I'm sorry. But I love Jim so I do.
Choicesmother dissolves. MASK OF SHAKESPEARE emanates.
Mask Of Shakespeare exchanges looks of commiseration with Fogarty before disappearing again.
Fogarty comes to the broken body of a beautiful girl lying in pieces on a trolley. Limbs all horribly disarranged and askew, crying and broken, she is unable to wipe away her own tears.
FOGARTY (tenderly)
Once we relax the fear of death something happens to life. Death is an astringent to life. It is death that holds life together.
The frightening looking figure of GRANUAILE in a nightdress materialises.
GRANUAILE
I believe you've been putting it all about the town that you are a relative of mine. Is this the case?
FOGARTY
Actually, I believe it to be the case your....Majesty?
(bows lowly)
GRANUAILE
Granuaile, but you can call me the Great Spoiler and Chief Commander and Director of Thieves and Murderers at Sea.
FOGARTY
Great Spoiler and Chief Commander and Director of Thieves and Murderers at Sea, I believe that I am related to you on my mother's side, actually.
GRANUAILE
Your Mother? Didn't she marry that catholic Doctor from Galway?
FOGARTY
Dr. Fogarty, yes, she did.
GRANUAILE
I was married a few times myself, you know. But no man could ever keep me satiated. Not even Iron Dick.
Granuaile roars with laughter, whilst evaporating away.
SAINT PATRICK materialises from the darkness bedecked in mitre and crozier, middle-aged, clean shaven, handsome.
Fogarty lifts his head from his hands, now remotivated.
FOGARTY
(with conviction)
Of course. Whilst death is, I am not. Whilst I am, death is not. Barney! How are you feeling?
BarneY
(paranoid)
I, e, I, I. Like I feel like death, heated slightly.
FOGARTY
You're not dead yet. Get out of here. The best of times is Now!
Wormy bolts, terrified.
